Anchein of Belial first comes into being within the cursed walls of Tresovia's Nebuchadnezzar Prison. He remembers very little of his life outside of the prison, just that as a child he was abused by his family and imprisoned wrongly by the residents of his home town. As a result, not surprisingly, he is very paranoid and cynical.

His only worldly posession apart from the tattered remnants of his prison uniform is a red shard of crystal. From within this crystal he hears the voice of a being calling itself Upelo, who is the one that first gives the amnesiac the name "Anchein."

Upelo, speaking from within the crystal, also tells him that one day he'll be freed from his prison and will be able to not only exact revenge but to become king of all the worlds. All this of course with the condition that he be obedient unto death. Tantalized by the offer, Anchein naively agrees to act as Upelo's agent on Geos.

Because the prison was something of an outpost for local Tresovian troops, it was attacked not long after the start of a border skirmish with Honshuko. Due to a shortage of manpower in the war between Tresovia and Honshuko, the prison was abandoned and its inhabitants condemned to die by starvation.

Fortunately, the initial attack caused significant structural damage to "the Nezz" and the now leaking roof supplied Anchein with water. His need for food was supplied by the multiplying plague of rats- just enough to eek out a pitiful existence. Although Ancheins physical needs were being met, it goes without saying that his raw meat and water diet was not enough to keep him healthy. Such a poor diet means that his survival was largely attributable to another source, that of the magic of the crystal, Anchein's "Soulstorm Shard" and the being sealed inside; they enabled him to feed on the souls of his prey as well as their flesh.

Anchein is discovered and released by a Tresovian soldier named Cyrus Wilmer, who offers to release Anchein on the condition he becomes his slave. Anchein agrees, although upon escaping from his cell uses the power of his Soulstorm Shard to disable Cyrus and takes his sword and kill him with it. Anchein leaves the prison and arrives in the camp that Cyrus was stationed in. He admits to having killed Cyrus and is sentenced to death by the leader of the group. Anchein manages to kill the officer thanks to the power of the shard. Some members of the group realize that something big is afoot and the join with him.

Anchein kills many in the same group as Cyrus but recruits some. Assumes the identity of the group's CO.

I thought Squall from FFVIII had a really cool name, so I tried to give Soulstorm Legacy's villain a storm themed name. I couldn't think of one, so I just tagged an A at the end of the word storm.

Eventually I realized that having the word "Storm" with an A at the end was too cheezy, so I tried to cover up its obvious origins by respelling it.

Dissatisfied with the whole "Stohrma" idea, I decided to give the villain a name that actually meant something. Anchein means "to strangle." Our word anger is derived from this term.
