[edit] Youth and Education
Carolus Vivec was born to a minor family of nobles in northern Giraun. Their wealth enabled them to afford a gifted personal tutor who gave young Carolus the best possible education. When he finally came of age, Carolus went to study political science and history up north at Siralia University (also the alma mater of Mezdarch Derevell).
An obvious prodigy, Carolus recieved his baccalaureate degree in only two and a half years. Later, as a graduate student he had correspondence with a foreign colleague, Meena Queller. Both were researching the same period of time, that containing the events leading up to The Disaster. Additionally, both were patrons of the arts Meena appreciating music and Carolus liking poetry. Despite the distance between them, their correspondance forged a strong bond between them.
Upon the completion of his studies, Carolus was chosen to be an aid to a powerful senator, Nollius Kallid. Carolus and Kallid got along well, a factor which along with Carolus's considerable intellect enabled the young aid to hold much more influence on policy than would be expected from someone in such a humble position.
With the apparent sickness of the king, and Zadok's increased power and role in policy making came a new political climate. Carolus suddenly ceased contact with Meena, as it became obvious that war between their respective nations was inevitable and such correspondence would draw suspicion. Both he and Senator Kallid had privately entertained doubts about the nature of King Ahitub's sickness.
[edit] Operation Firebrand
Their suspicions were well founded. In 1572, Zadok began an invasion of their old ally Beithall; hardly the act of a man trying to manage a country while his father was ill. Carolus and Kallid knew of the good relations and past closeness of Ahitub and Beithall's King Nathaniel VI.
Carolus secretly sent a message to Nathaniel explaining his suspicions, that the illness was the result of a cleverly devised assassination attempt. Nathaniel concurred and along with Kallid, the three began formulating a scheme to remove Zadok from the picture and reinstate the far more benevolent Ahitub, a result which would be of benefit to both Beithall and Giraun.
Operation Firebrand was what the resulting collaboration between Beithall and the Giraunians disloyal to Zadok was termed. A small team of Beithalli agents were to infiltrate the capital, kill Zadok and administrate an antidote to Ahitub. They were then to draft a peace treaty between Beithall and Giraun with assitance from Carolus and Senator Kallid. When the ambassadorial affairs were completed, the team was to return home. Carolus, in a letter to Nathaniel recommended giving Meena Queller membership on the four-peron team. Nathaniel complied.
While waiting for the Firebrand team to arrive, Carolus and Kallid began investigating the cause and potential cure for the poison.

During the interlude in the Second Realm War precipitated by the death of Anchein, Meena and Carolus marry in an elaborate, very public ceremony attended by the newly crowned queen of Beithall herself, Meena's ally Eliana Mathilde.
[edit] Meena's Affair
Learning that Conroy, of whom Carolus was quite proud, was not his biological son dealt a huge blow to the man. Carolus attempted to maintain a relationship with Conroy, but was effectively rebuffed by him. His family shattered, his career apparently halted by the worsening global crises, Carolus seems to drop out of sight. His fate is unknown except that he apparently died before the final battle with the resurrected Kynar.

[edit] Immer/Meena/Carolus
I’m thinking of splitting up the Immer/Meena pairing. They’re just not fit for each other. So, I’m creating a new character as a husband for Meena. Not sure if or how much of an appearance he’ll make in SsL. As of now, his name is Carolus. Not sure if I’ll be keeping that though. I like the name well enough, I guess, but there’s already a lot of K sound names in SsD, yknow? Koyla, Kestrel, Kynar, Conroy, ad nauseum. They just keep adding up. Then there’s the names that just have the k sound in them. Ramic, Vernik,. Lot of R names to. Ramic, Rasha etc. I wonder why I can’t seem to avoid these names. I hope I’m not up against the edges of my creativity. Anyway, I know I’m approaching them at least. I’ve thrown a lot into these games, it’s intellectually exhausting. I think I have just enough in me to finish these games decently. Then I think that’s it. I won’t do any more fictional crap. I’ll be mentally free to pursue scientific endeavors. I’ve rambled a lot, so I’m straying from the point. Hopefully I can generate ideas and refine visions I have.
