[edit] Origin of Humanity
Humans are the descendants of ape-like animals that made contact with touchpoints of Aether and Umbra. The first man, Adam, touched the touchpoints and gained a human soul. This event occurred in the Genesis Caverns not far from Mount Acheron in Soddenia. Human history has taken a long and sordid path from this humble beginning, and knowledge of humanity's earliest days have been mostly forgotten.
[edit] Nature of Humanity
Humans are intelligent tool-using primates. Their souls are far more complex than the souls of other animals. As such, they are capable of speech, tool use, and philosophy. Their souls have a much higher proportion of aetherial and umbral virtues in their composition. This last feature is responsible for humanity's spiritual leanings and understanding of morality.

[edit] Eldin Race
Adam and his earliest descendants were members of this race. Eldins spread across the globe and built a great civilization. They were responsible for building the Spire of Gehenna and the Pillar of Heaven, along with a sizable portion of the world's ancient ruins.
In modern times the Old Race is exceedingly rare, their only known stronghold is the nation of Soddenia. Physically, the Old Race has high endurance. Their skin tends to be dark, as well as their hair and eyes. This makes them comparable to the races on Earth who have typically lived in sync with nature.

However, eventually they decided that a simple life close to nature was better than one that struggled against it. Unfortunately, their descendants the Common Race didn’t share these sentiments, and they took over the civilization built by the Old Race.
They are very peaceful under normal circumstances, but will not hesitate to fight in defense of nature or the sanctity of some holy sites.
[edit] The Nupolic, or "Common" Race
The descendant of the Old Race, the Common Race is the most numerous Race on Phenomena. It first arose in an area in northern Dicaudia called "Nupolia." Initially castigated and outcast by the Eldins due to their bizarre and unhealthy appearance, the Nupolics grew in numbers as the Eldin Race went into decline after the White Terror devastated its ranks. They spread rapidly to all corners of the globe, and eventually spawned two more Races itself; the Lonely Race, and the New Race.
The Common Race is largely Caucasoid in features. Their skin is light, although it can darken with excessive exposure to the sun. Eyes come in a wide variety of colors, sometimes hues not found in earthlings. Hair isn’t quite as variable. Brown, black, red and blond are the most common colors. Members of the Common Race are devoted to societal advancement more so than other Races. The Common Race is behind most advances in science, magic, and history, although this is largely due to there sheer numbers.

They appeared at a time when the Old Race’s philosophy shifted towards a pastoral existence. Members of the Common Race did not share this view, and took hold of the Old Race’s civilization gradually mostly through peaceful means, but as with all human concerns, bloodshed played a part as well.
[edit] The Kailong Race
The Lonely Race’s origins are quite obscure, and not nearly as earth-shattering as the appearance of the Common or New Races. It is not known whether the Lonely Race appeared first in Dicaudia or Storikos, but these are the most likely places. Their name was earned because of their isolationist policies, and their anti-immigration philosophies. The primary habitation of the Lonely Race is Honshuko, so much so that saying Honshukese is almost synonymous with “Lonely Race.”
They are very loyal to their government, and the soldiers of Honshuko are among the finest in the World. The Lonely Race also devotes much time to philosophy, poetry, and various art forms thought to be peculiar by other Races. Their skin is light, in keeping with their Common ancestors. However, their eyes and hair are almost always dark, and not as variable as member of the Common Race. The shape of the eyes are also distinguishing; many of other Races have described them as slanting.
[edit] The Jiranite Race
The New Race made the most recent appearance on the scene. It is unique, in that it is the only Race whose founder is known. Jiran the Blue was the first member of this Race. He was born on the continent of Dicaudia, and ended up establishing a nation which was named after him. It bore the name Jiran, but this was later corrupted into being called Giraun.
Giraunians hold Jiran as a national hero, and strive to follow his example of bravery and honor. This makes them the foremost in militarism. They are also imperialistic, and Giraun grew gradually into the Blue Phoenix Empire. Eventually the citizens of Beithall rebelled, pushing the Giraunians from Dicaudia and onto a small island continent which was renamed Giraun, and has held the highest concentration of the New Race ever since. The New Race would appear the strangest to an earthling visitor.
Its members have the light skin of the Common Race, but their hair occurs in an astonishing variety of colors. Blue is the most common, but pink, green, purple, silver exist as well. Being born with multiple hair colors is also not unheard of, or even exceedingly rare. They are brilliant tacticians, inventors and most of the population develops skills in the martial arts, making them formidable adversaries.
[edit] Otherworldly Races
[edit] Belian
Belians are descended from a mixture of Nupolics and Eldins that emigrated from Geos through the Soddenian Gateway to Belial in hopes of escaping the White Terror. Eventually as the two groups mingled and adapted to the new world over the years, they became a unique race.
Belians are dark haired people, with fair skin. Later variants had dark Jiranite-type hair colors. All Belians have reddish or maroonish eyes. Many have naturally occuring dark pigment patterns on areas of the body that can resemble animal coats or tribal tattoos.

Salemites have a similar origin to Belians in emigrants fleeing the Terror, but they lack the Eldin element that composed so much of the early Belians.
Salemites have extremely light skin, light but variant hair colors. They used to have very long lives, but now have very short ones, with a life expectancy of about 30.
